Online Course
Diabetes & Coronary Interventions
http://www.tctmd.com/product-education/one.html?education_id=343
The following course is designed for clinical and interventional cardiologists and researchers interested in diabetes as it relates to coronary intervention.
At the conclusion of this program, the participant should be able to do the following:

Diabetes and the associated incidence of subclinical atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease: Implications for management

Asymptomatic diabetic persons have the same atherogenic burden of those patients with CAD without diabetes. The high prevalence of coronary calcium in asymptomatic persons with diabetes supports the need for aggressive management of diabetes and associated risk factors.

Outpatient stenting
http://www.theheart.org/index.cfm?doc_id=23287
Outpatient coronary stenting became possible with advances in technology and technique in the mid-90s, but is still fairly rare in actual practice. Is simple political inertia and a lack of HCFA reimbursement stopping the procedure from enjoying wider use? Two cardiologists who offer their patients outpatient therapy, Dr Ian Gilchrist and Dr James Wilentz, discuss their approach.

Outpatient coronary stenting - what's stopping you?
Outpatient stenting is safe, it's effective, and it's already being done in a number of centers in the US. The main reason outpatient coronary stenting isn't more widespread, according to Dr William O'Neill, is insufficient reimbursement by Medicare. [April 26]

Longitudinal assessment of neurocognitive function after coronary-artery bypass surgery

The results of this study confirm the relatively high prevalence and persistence of cognitive decline after CABG and suggest a pattern of early improvement followed by a later decline that is predicted by the presence of early postoperative cognitive decline.
LEADING OPINION
Investigators at Duke University have been studying the cognitive ability of patients who undergo coronary bypass surgery.

"Almost half of patients suffer cognitive decline 5 years after bypass surgery"
An important study from Duke University, newly published in the NEJM, has shown that CABG with cardiopulmonary bypass is frequently associated with notable cognitive decline, both immediately post-op and at 5 years after surgery. The mainstream media were quick to report this story as well. Read Heartwire's interview with the lead author, then read what the New York Times told its readers, at these pages:
