Recent articles have addressed arcane issues such as the immunology of pseudothrombocytopenia and how polymorphism of glycoprotein IIIa may contribute to subacute stent thrombosis. Fortunately, the interventionist can presently ignore these esoterica without compromising care to coronary intervention patients. What is necessary is attention to existing guidelines for monitoring platelets in patients treated with antiplatelet drugs. These simple precautions should not be missed or overshadowed by more dramatic aspects of the interventional patient's care.
